Half day Alhambra tour on regular basis.
Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia. it was originally constructed as a small fortress in 889 and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-13th century by the Moorish Emir Mohammed I ibn Nasr of the Emirate of Granada, who built the current palace and walls. it was converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada. Alhambra’s Islamic palaces, as we know them today, were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and the court of the Nasrid dynasty. after the conquest of Granada by the Reyes Católicos (Catholic Monarchs) in 1492, some portions were used by Christian rulers. the palace of Charles V, holy Roman emperor in 1527, was inserted in the Alhambra within the Nasrid fortifications. after falling into disrepair for centuries and the buildings being occupied by squatters, the Alhambra was rediscovered in the 19th century by European scholars and travellers, with restorations commencing. it is now one of Spain’s major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country’s most significant and well known Islamic architecture, together with 16th-century and later Christian building and garden interventions. Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the inspiration for many songs and stories.

Córdoba sightseeing based on a hop on hop off bus.
At this tour, see the Roman bridge, the Jewish quarter, the synagogue and the mosque, a famous monument in the Islamic west, built on an ancient mosque with the materials of the Christian Basilica of San Vicente. Córdoba was captured in 711 by a Muslim army. unlike other Iberian towns, no capitulation was signed and the position was taken by storm. Córdoba was in turn governed by direct Muslim rule. the new Muslim commanders established themselves within the city and in 716 it became a provincial capital, subordinate to the caliphate of Damascus.
Different areas were allocated for the services in the Saint Vincent Church shared by Christians and Muslims, until the mosque started to be erected on the same spot under Abd-Ar-Rahman I. He allowed the Christians to rebuild their ruined churches and purchased the Christian half of the church of St Vincent. In May 766, Córdoba was chosen as the capital of the independent Muslim emirate of Al-Andalus, later a caliphate itself. during the caliphate apogee (1.000 AD), Córdoba had a population of roughly 500.000 inhabitants, though estimates range between 350.000 and one million. In the 10th and 11th centuries, Córdoba was one of the most advanced cities in the world as well as a great cultural, political, financial and economic center.

As political capital of Andalucía, Sevilla houses the government and parliament of this autonomous region. the legend says Sevilla was founded by Hercules. it was called Hispalis by the Romans and Ishbiliya by the Moors. The Muslim general Musa ibn Nusayr, accompanied by his son Abd al-Aziz ibn Musa, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar with an army of 18.000 men and proceeded to conquest the Visigothic territory. Then Prince Abd al-Aziz took Hispalis in 712 after a long siege. the city now was called “Ishbiliya” in Arabic, and served as the capital of Al-Andalus, the name given to the Iberian peninsula as a province of the Islamic empire of the Umayyad caliphate. During this period of Muslim rule, a rich and complex culture developed. The Emirate favoured the expansion of the Islam through concessions to those Christians who converted to the Islam, called muwallads. the name of the city changed from Ishbiliya to Sivilia, and finally reached the form Sevilla, as it is known today.
